What is a 501(c)(3)?
A 501(c)(3) is the critical step in organizing your nonprofit once you have filed Articles of Incorporation. It is a section of the Internal Revenue Service tax code that provides tax exemptions for public charities, Churches, private foundations, and other nonprofit organizations.
The Process
Most nonprofit, religious, or charitable organizations must obtain formal Tax-Exempt Recognition with the Internal Revenue Service. This is accomplished by completing and filing Application Form 1023 with the Internal Revenue Service. If engaged, our firm can prepare the required Application Form 1023 for Tax-Exempt Recognition. We will review all organizational documents, including Articles of Incorporation, and Governing Bylaws to ensure these documents meet the requirements under IRS Section 501(c)(3). If the organizational documents do not meet the IRS requirements, our firm can amend or update these prior to the preparation of the Application Form 1023. Once complete, you can be assured of acceptance by the IRS as a qualified tax-exempt organization.
